We are Champions

Every Coach has his day and this is the day the Lord has made for Championship Coach, Coach Richard Holmes.

In October of 2014, Coach Holmes and the 6u team travel to Baltimore, MD for a game no one expected them to win.  Going 6 and 3 on the season, and finishing off the team in the playoffs by 14 points to make it to the championship, the 6u PG County Bears team were the underdogs of the league.  After attending several coaching clinics in the off season, Coach Holmes was trained up and ready for action that year with a new game plan and teaching strategies to validate the 2014 season.

As the game got started, the opposing team, the Baltimore Terps scored first leaving doubt that the championship would be won.  However, in the 2nd quarter, the Bears pulled off a 60 yard run to tie the game going into half time.  After the half time speech, Coach Holmes and his staff, Coach Russell Adams and Coach William Brown made the ultimate decision to pray and not discuss the game, but give a “sermon” on the importance of what it means to believe and develop a relationship with Christ.

Our infrastructure is built on spiritual principles.  That’s what makes us a strong team and a winning team. - John Shackelford, Co-Commissioner

Creating hope in the youth is one of the most important features of any youth organization.  Coach Holmes knows this and put that emphasis on the game instead of attempting to drive the game plan into the heads of 5 and 6 year olds.  Ultimately, the 6u scored 2 additional touchdowns by the end of the 4th quarter and won the game decisively by 14 points.  Way to Go Bears.
